Digital Lingua is a project aimed at improving online language teaching for migrant people. It focuses on equipping teachers with pedagogical and digital skills to improve the quality and effectiveness of online second-language learning for migrant students. The project is led by the French Red Cross, in collaboration with four partner organisations across Europe.

Project Details
Over its 26-month duration, Digital Lingua will create a comprehensive toolkit for teachers, provide training for over 200 educators, and pilot online language courses for 400+ migrant students across France, Cyprus, Greece, Spain, and Italy, ensuring a diverse and impactful approach to distance language learning. Through innovative digital strategies and a strong focus on inclusivity, Digital Lingua is contributing to the future of language education to displaced communities in Europe.

Croix-Rouge Française
The French Red Cross is a humanitarian organisation committed to social action, education, and inclusion. With extensive experience in language education for migrants, it leads Digital Lingua in developing innovative and inclusive teaching solutions.
G.F.C. Generation for Change CY
A grassroots non-profit working on migration, integration, and education, GFC provides language courses and digital skills training to migrants and refugees. Their expertise in non-formal education supports the project’s efforts in inclusive digital learning.
Glossomatheia
A leading language education centre, Glossomatheia specialises in digital and experiential teaching methods. With experience in developing interactive learning tools, they contribute to the creation of the Digital Lingua Teacher’s Toolkit.
Open Cultural Center
OCC works at the intersection of education and migration, providing language programmes, digital tools, and cultural exchange initiatives for refugees and migrants. Their expertise ensures accessible and community-driven learning approaches.
Oxfam Italia Onlus
A major non-profit dedicated to education, social inclusion, and economic justice, Oxfam Italia brings its experience in teacher training, digital education, and migrant support programmes to strengthen the project’s impact.
Project Context
Migrant learners often face barriers to language education, including limited access to courses, time constraints and financial pressures.
Online language classes can reduce some of these barriers through flexible, remote learning, but their impact is limited by the digital divide, such as lack of devices, connectivity and digital skills. This project tackles these challenges by combining accessible online language learning with targeted digital support.

RESULT # 1
Research on the State of Online Education
This research explores the current landscape of online language education, identifying challenges, best practices, and opportunities for improvement. By analysing the experiences of educators and learners, it provides key insights into the effectiveness of digital tools and teaching strategies in migrant language education.
RESULT # 2
DigitalLingua Teacher’s Toolkit
An interactive guide for educators designed to enhance distance language teaching. The toolkit will include lesson plans, digital teaching strategies, and practical resources to help teachers create engaging and inclusive online learning experiences. A preview demo version will be available for exploration before the full toolkit is released.
